Water Polo

Hitchin Swimming Club provides water polo teaching for mini, junior and senior players. It should be noted that all the Club’s policies, including child welfare, apply to the water polo section of the Club. Given the relatively small number of water polo players, the Club recognises that water polo sessions may comprise mixed gender and mixed age groups. Teaching follows ASA best practice to protect all those involved and ensure everyone enjoys their water polo.

Over 14 new players are welcome to come and try-out on any Sunday evening at Hitchin Swimming Centre at 20:30. Under 14 players can try-out on any Saturday morning at Letchworth Leisure Centre at 08:00. You do not need any previous experience, just come down and turn up. New players can try-out for three weeks before deciding whether to join. For further information see below, or e-mail .

Mini Water Polo Section

The mini water polo section is generally for players aged between 11 and 14, dependent upon ability and is open to both girls and boys. Anyone joining must have basic swimming skills, and will usually have reached level 7 on the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).

The teaching of water polo for mini players follows a termly plan, during which players will develop basic water polo skills. Players will develop skills and techniques to enable them to achieve levels 8 - 10 of the NPTS.

Mini players will also be invited to participate in the junior sessions when they are old and strong enough to cope (see Junior sessions below). Particularly talented players will be sign posted to Watford Water Polo Club, where they will be able to train with other talented players.

Mini water polo takes place at North Herts Leisure Centre on a termly basis from 08:00 to 09:00. Players must join the ASA (as at least ASA Cat 1 non-competitive swimmers) and the Club.

Fees are payable monthly by standing order, and for 2015 are set at £10.
